Your inner ear tells your brain where you are.

Deep in each ear sits a set of fluid-filled canals and sensors that report every movement of your head. Your brain compares that report against what your eyes see and what your joints feel. When the three disagree, the brain reads it as spinning. Vestibular therapy, also called vestibular rehabilitation, works on that disagreement directly.

The first job is finding which part is misreporting. Loose crystals inside a canal cause BPPV, and repositioning maneuvers move them back where they belong. A weak or mismatched nerve signal needs a different route: graded gaze stability and habituation work that teaches the brain to recalibrate around it.

If the room moves when your head moves.

You have probably been told it is dehydration, or anxiety, or something that will pass. If rolling over in bed, looking up at a shelf or walking down a crowded aisle sets the room spinning, that pattern is information. It points at a system that can be tested and trained.

Vestibular Evaluation

We watch your eyes, your head motion and your balance under changing conditions, then take away vision or a stable surface to see which system your body is leaning on. The point is to find the driver, not to confirm the dizziness.

Repositioning or Retraining

If testing points to loose crystals in a canal, repositioning maneuvers move them out. If the signal itself is weak or mismatched, you get graded gaze stability and habituation work instead. The finding decides the treatment.

Back Into Real Movement

Symptoms live in specific settings: stairs, grocery aisles, driving, the gym floor. We rebuild tolerance in those settings on purpose, so the steadiness you find in the clinic follows you out the door.

A world that holds still while you move.

Vestibular work does more than quiet the spinning. It rebuilds the brain's trust in the signals it is getting, and that is what lets you turn your head, bend down and move through a crowd without bracing for it.

Positional Vertigo Addressed

Repositioning maneuvers treat BPPV at its source, the displaced crystals inside the canal, rather than managing the spinning that follows.

Steady Vision on the Move

Gaze stability work restores the reflex that keeps the world in focus while your head is turning, walking or scanning a room.

Lower Motion Sensitivity

Graded habituation dials down the reaction to the movements and environments that set you off, so busy places stop reading as a risk.

Confidence on Your Feet

As the signal steadies, the bracing and the shortened, careful stride that come with dizziness fade, and ordinary walking comes back.

You do not need a referral to start. Illinois Direct Access lets you see a licensed physical therapist for up to 10 visits or 15 business days without one, so testing your dizziness does not have to wait on another appointment first.

Bring the details you think are too small to matter: which direction you turn, which side you sleep on, what you have stopped doing. That is the information the evaluation is built on. We are in-network with BCBS, PPO and Medicare, and we will verify your plan first.
