A regeneration protocol, not a massage tool.
ASTYM is an instrument-assisted therapy. A clinician moves smooth, contoured instruments along the skin over an area of scar tissue or degenerated tendon. The pressure and the pattern are specific, and the goal is not to feel good in the moment. It is to get your body to resorb the bad tissue and rebuild sound tissue in its place.
That is why ASTYM is a protocol rather than a technique you drop into a session. Instrument work is paired with loading the same day and repeated on a schedule, because a tendon only remodels if it is then asked to do work.
Instrument work, then load, on a set schedule.
Baseline and Plan
Your clinician tests the tendon under load to see what actually provokes it and how much it can currently take. That baseline sets both the treatment area and the exercise you will be doing between visits.
Instrument Application
The instruments are drawn along the tissue in a set pattern. Tender areas tell both of you where the problem tissue sits, and some pinkness or soreness for a day afterward is part of the normal response.
Load in the Same Visit
Exercise follows the instrument work every time. The stimulus tells your body something needs rebuilding, and the load tells it what to rebuild for. Skipping the second half is exactly why passive care alone does not hold.
Schedule Your Appointment
Illinois Direct Access means you can start with a licensed physical therapist without a doctor's referral. Bring us the tendon that has been sore for months and we will tell you whether ASTYM is the right tool for it.
Your first visit is an evaluation of how the tissue behaves under load, not a quick look at the sore spot. We are in network with BCBS, PPO and Medicare, and we can verify your plan before you come in.
You’re all set.
We’ll reach out within one business day to confirm your appointment. If you need to speak with us sooner, call us directly.
